New visitors to our website are often curious about our solid shampoos. Accordingly, we get lots of inquiries about them. Maybe you too are unfamiliar with solid shampoo and have questions of your own. If so, here are some answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.

What is a Solid Shampoo?

A solid shampoo is one that comes in bar form rather than liquid and appears more like a soap.

How do you use a Solid Shampoo?

Using a solid shampoo really isn’t difficult. Here are the steps:

  • Wet your hair thoroughly

  • Unwrap the shampoo bar and moisten it slightly

  • Run the bar over your hair two or three times only. Don’t overdo it, as the shampoo is highly concentrated.

  • Use your fingers to gently knead the shampoo into your hair and scalp. You should now begin to see a lather forming.

  • Continue massaging your hair as you normally would when shampooing.

  • Rinse thoroughly.

  • Apply a solid conditioner by repeating the above steps.

Do Shampoo Bars Leave Behind a Residue?

One of the biggest misconceptions people have about solid shampoos is that they leave behind a residue. This idea probably comes from the fact that they are more like bar soap than a traditional shampoo. Even so, solid shampoos do not leave a residue in your hair, provided you rinse thoroughly.

How can you avoid a residue when using bar shampoo? First, be careful not to use too much shampoo. You want only a slight lather rather than a handful of soapy suds.

When rinsing, pay special attention to the area behind your ears as well as the nape of your neck. This is especially true if you have very thick or long hair.

What are the Advantages of a Solid Shampoo?

Solid shampoos contain very little packaging when compared to other shampoos. Instead of a large plastic bottle, there’s only a tiny piece of paper that’s used to wrap the bar in. So there’s less waste, which in turn is much better for the environment.

Commercial shampoos often contain harsh ingredients such as sulfates, parabens, phthalates, and even formaldehyde. Not only can these chemicals cause health problems, but you also leave traces of them in the water each time you shampoo. That’s not the case with our products, which are fully biodegradable and sulfate free.

Ironically, the ingredients that are supposed to clean and nourish your hair may actually harm it instead. Accordingly, many people report better hair texture and less breakage after switching to one of our solid shampoos.
